Native freshwater catfish of eastern Australia — Murray-Darling and east-coast rivers and impoundments. Targeted with worms, shrimp and small soft plastics on the bottom. Watch the venomous pectoral and dorsal spines when handling. Saltwater catfish species also exist and aren't the same fish.
Generally fished with light tackle — match gear to the conditions and the size of fish you expect.
No seasonal pattern for eel-tailed catfish yet. Seasons shift with water temperature and local conditions — check state fisheries advice and recent local reports before planning a trip.
