Schooling small mackerel found around inshore reefs, FADs and bait-fish pinnacles across southern and eastern Australia. Bait-jigged or caught on small metals; one of the prime live and dead baits for marlin, kingfish and tuna. Oily flesh — best smoked or used as bait.
Generally fished with light tackle — match gear to the conditions and the size of fish you expect.
