QLD and northern NSW estuary and inshore whiting that schools heavily over sand-mud bottoms. Targeted with paternoster or running-sinker rigs with peeled prawn, worms or yabbies, especially in winter when sand whiting drop off. Sweet, mild table fish; bag-builders on light gear.
Generally fished with ultralight tackle — match gear to the conditions and the size of fish you expect.
Seasons shift with water temperature and local conditions, so check recent reports before a trip.
