Drop-offs along the dredged channel into Whyalla port — 8m drops to 14m a short troll east of the wharf. Big snapper used to stack here (closure in force); blue swimmer crabs, snook and squid still work the edges. Note Upper Spencer Gulf sanctuary zones.

Situation. A cold front and trough will track east today clearing South Australia as a ridge of high pressure develops in its wake. A trough is then expected to develop near the western border on Sunday and remain near stationary nearly next week.
Saturday 5 September until midnight. Winds: Southwesterly 15 to 20 knots becoming variable about 10 knots in the late afternoon. Seas: 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday, then decreasing below 1 metre by early evening. Swell: Southwesterly 3 to 4 metres. Weather: Cloudy.
Sunday 6 September. Winds: East to northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots before dawn then tending east to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the middle of the day. Seas: Around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. Swell: Southwesterly 3 to 4 metres, decreasing to 2.5 to 3 metres during the morning. Weather: Mostly sunny.
