Heavyweight estuary crab of QLD, NT and northern WA — also found into northern NSW. Targeted with baited crab pots in mangrove creeks, tidal rivers and mud flats. Strict pot, size and bag rules in every state — only males may be kept in most regions, no berried females ever.
Generally fished with ultralight tackle — match gear to the conditions and the size of fish you expect.
Seasons shift with water temperature and local conditions, so check recent reports before a trip.
