Field notes

Cowan Creek runs through Ku-ring-gai Chase with deep drop-offs against steep sandstone banks. Kingfish, jewfish and squid hold deep; bream and flathead on the shallower flats. Access is boat-only from Bobbin Head or Cottage Point.

Situation. Northerly winds are becoming west to northwesterly as a ridge extending from a high over the Tasman Sea recedes ahead of a cold front approaching the state from the southwest. The cold front will then cross Sydney Waters on Thursday, with a fresh southwesterly wind change in its wake.
Tuesday 21 July until midnight. Winds: North to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots decreasing to about 10 knots in the late afternoon. Seas: Below 0.5 metres. Weather: Mostly clear.
Wednesday 22 July. Winds: Northerly below 10 knots becoming west to northwesterly before dawn. Seas: Below 0.5 metres. Weather: Mostly sunny.
Thursday 23 July. Winds: Westerly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the morning. Seas: Below 0.5 metres. Weather: Sunny.
