Field notes
Spiked dolerite columns just south of Cape Hauy on the Tasman Peninsula. Boat-only fishing in the wash for Australian salmon, couta and the occasional kingfish in warm summers. Striped trumpeter sit out on the deeper edges. Exposed open ocean - calm days only.

Situation. A high pressure centre near the South Australian coast extends a ridge of high pressure to the west of Tasmania. The ridge slowly approaches Tasmania and is expected to cross during Thursday and Friday, bringing mostly settled weather to the state. The high is then forecast to move to the east of Tasmania later Friday as a cold front approaches from the west during Saturday.
Tuesday 19 May until midnight. Winds: West to southwesterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots east of King Island. Seas: 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres east of King Island. Swell: Westerly 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 2 metres south of King Island. Weather: Cloudy.
Wednesday 20 May. Winds: Westerly 15 to 20 knots turning southwesterly 15 to 25 knots early in the morning. Seas: 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres by early evening. Swell: Westerly 1 to 2 metres, tending southwesterly 1.5 to 2.5 metres during the morning. Weather: Partly cloudy. 70% chance of showers.
