Wide tropical system on the western Cape York coast. World-class barramundi and threadfin water — fish the rockbars and creek mouths on the run-out, with black jewfish and golden snapper on the deeper holes. Crocs everywhere.

Situation. A ridge of high pressure extends over the Gulf waters from a high [1031 hPa] centred over the Tasman Sea. A new high will move east across southern Australia from Thursday, strengthening the ridge.
Tuesday 21 July until midnight. Winds: East to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning south to southwesterly in the evening. Seas: Below 1 metre. Weather: Clear.
Wednesday 22 July. Winds: South to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending east to southeasterly in the morning then turning south to southwesterly in the afternoon. Seas: Below 1 metre. Swell: Below 0.5 metres. Weather: Sunny.
Thursday 23 July. Winds: South to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending east to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the morning then tending south to southeasterly in the evening. Seas: Around 1 metre. Swell: Below 0.5 metres. Weather: Mostly sunny.
Friday 24 July. Winds: South to southeasterly 15 to 25 knots. Seas: 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the evening. Weather: Sunny. North East Gulf of Carpentaria: Cape Keerweer to Crab Island
