Manton Dam

Dam·Northern Territory·Australia

Field notes

Heritage barramundi impoundment about 60km south of Darwin, stocked decades ago and famous for fat, lure-shy fish. Saratoga work the lily edges, and the dam is a rare NT freshwater spot where you can launch a small boat without crocodile drama (still freshwater croc country).

Best windows combine civil twilight with the hour either side of sun transit — the universal low-light feeding window most species respond to. Moon phase influence is folkloric; full and new moons coincide with the strongest tide swings.
